Do you need this?

During construction, an architect’s role is general review, not supervision of the contractor. The contractor stays responsible for construction methods, sequencing and site safety. General review helps catch problems early and keeps the design intent intact.

What you receive

  • Scheduled site visits at agreed stages
  • Written field reports noting observations and deficiencies
  • Responses to the contractor’s questions
  • Review of proposed changes
  • Coordination with consultants
  • Support at substantial completion

What we need from you

  • Construction schedule
  • Contractor contact details
  • Permit and inspection schedule
  • How often you would like visits

What affects timeline and cost

  • Project size and duration
  • Distance from the site
  • Number of visits
  • Consultants attending

We cannot promise municipal timelines. Our early-stage fees are on the pricing page.

What we look at on a visit

  • Whether work generally matches the drawings and specifications
  • Key stages such as framing, insulation and finishes
  • Open questions the contractor has
  • Items to correct before the next stage

Common questions

Before you start

Is this the same as site supervision?

No. We review the work for general conformance with the design. The contractor supervises the work and stays responsible for means, methods and safety.

Does this replace the city’s inspections?

No. Municipal inspections are separate and still required.

How often will you visit?

We agree on the visits with you at the start, usually tied to key stages.
