OBC code matrix builder
Find out which Part of the Ontario Building Code applies to your project, then prepare a Part 3, 9, 10 or 11 data matrix step by step. Then export it as a PDF or DXF. A free drafting aid, not professional advice.
Before you start
A free drafting aid for Ontario Building Code data matrices. Please read this first.
- This tool helps you organize information for an OBC data matrix. It is not a code review, a design, or professional advice.
- Results depend entirely on what you enter. Automatic checks are preliminary draft rules and may be incomplete or wrong.
- Definitions are plain-language summaries. The official Ontario Building Code (2024 Building Code) governs.
- A matrix submitted with a permit application must be prepared or reviewed by a qualified designer (BCIN holder, architect or engineer) as the Code requires.
- Not affiliated with or endorsed by the Ontario Association of Architects or the Province of Ontario.
- Your entries stay in your browser. Nothing is sent to LA Design or stored. Refreshing the page clears them.
Which Part of the Code applies?
Answer five quick questions. We will suggest the matrix, and you can still choose any of the four.
Select every major occupancy (use) in the building.
Largest footprint above ground, final building.
Basements below the first storey do not count.
Part 11 is for renovating buildings that are at least five years old.
All four are available. The suggested one is pre-selected.
Project data
Entered once. These values fill every matrix you selected, and later the plumbing and energy sections.
For existing buildings, enter only the part that will remain. Existing + new = final building.
